Cranberry Lake

Cranberry Lake sits on the east branch of the Oswegatchie River in the Adirondack Park, in the southern part of St. Lawrence County. It is the third largest lake in the park, after Lake George and the Great Sacandaga Lake, with 6,975 acres of surface area, about 55 miles of shoreline and 38 islands. The lake takes its name from the extensive bogs it once contained, and an 1865 dam on the Oswegatchie doubled its size. About 75 percent of the shoreline is state-owned, bordered by the Five Ponds Wilderness Area and the Cranberry Lake Wild Forest, and the fifty-mile Cranberry Lake 50 trail loops around the lake through the hamlets of Cranberry Lake and Wanakena.
