Heart Lake

Heart Lake lies in the town of North Elba, Essex County, in the Adirondack Mountains near Lake Placid. The Adirondak Loj, built in 1927 and owned and operated by the Adirondack Mountain Club, stands on its shore within a 706-acre private preserve that also includes Mount Jo. The Loj property hosts the trailhead of the Van Hoevenberg Trail, which leads to Mount Marcy and Algonquin Peak, the two highest points in the state. Mount Jo, at whose foot the lake sits, rises to 2,832 feet about seven miles south of Lake Placid.
