Home Acres is a residential neighborhood in the town of Brighton, Monroe County, in the southeast corner of Monroe Avenue and Highland Avenue and extending south to Elmwood Avenue. Its neighborhood association describes it as Brighton's first subdivision: the land, once owned by Gideon Cobb of Cobb's Hill, was bought in 1911 by developer Charles Garfield, incorporated as The Home Acres Company and divided into lots, advertised as 15 minutes from downtown Rochester by streetcar. The first house went up on Southern Parkway in 1911 and the last in 1965. The neighborhood keeps a tradition of Memorial Day parades and summer picnics, and a volunteer association publishes a directory and maintains the planted entrances.
