Twelve Corners

The name is arithmetic. Winton Road, Monroe Avenue and Elmwood Avenue all meet here, and three roads crossing make twelve distinct corners. That is the whole story, and nobody has improved on it. It is Brighton's commercial and entertainment hub, which is a big title for an intersection, but it is where the town does its shopping, and the town hall campus and the library are on Elmwood Avenue.

Brighton is one of the oldest towns in Monroe County, established in 1814 and named for Brighton, England, and it has had no village of its own since 1905, when Rochester annexed the old village around East Avenue and Winton Road. Twelve Corners does that job instead. Bel-Air sits just to the north, close enough to walk. Roselawn is the triangle between Elmwood Avenue and Monroe Avenue with the town hall at its south end, laid out in 1919 on old brickyards. And Monroe Avenue, from Highland Avenue out to Clover Street, has had its own community vision plan since 2011.

There is one design for this corner and it says what it needs to. The Twelve Corners tee in Erie Blue is the one for a Saturday of errands. The crewneck in Concrete is for the walk over from Bel-Air once the weather turns. And Light Ice if you would rather it read quiet.
