Pittsford
Pittsford is a town in Monroe County, New York, and a suburb about seven miles southeast of Rochester; its population was 30,617 at the 2020 census. Formerly part of the town of Northfield, Pittsford was settled in 1789 and incorporated in 1796; the towns of Pittsford and Brighton were formed by a final split in 1814, and the village of Pittsford was incorporated in 1827. The town was named by Colonel Caleb Hopkins, a War of 1812 veteran and later town supervisor, for his birthplace of Pittsford, Vermont. The Erie Canal passes through Pittsford; its completion in 1825 spurred development, and the village of Pittsford sits centrally in the town on Routes 96 (Main Street) and 31 (State Street).
