East Avenue runs from the village of Pittsford through the town of Brighton into downtown Rochester, New York, carrying State Route 96 to its end at East Main Street. It crosses the Brighton-Rochester line through the Can of Worms interchange with I-490 and I-590, and west of Winton Road it becomes the spine of the East Avenue Historic District, a 362-acre district of about 700 structures listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. The district holds the George Eastman House, a National Historic Landmark, and the Edward E. Boynton House, Rochester's only Frank Lloyd Wright building. The stretch around East Avenue and Winton Road was the village of Brighton until Rochester annexed it in 1905.
