Highland Park

Highland Park is a 150-acre arboretum in Rochester, New York, laid out on a glacial moraine it shares with a city reservoir and Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School. It began in 1888 with 20 acres given by nurserymen George Ellwanger and Patrick Barry and was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted as one of the country's first municipal arboretums. The lilac collection started by John Dunbar in 1892 now numbers more than 1,200 shrubs of over 500 varieties and anchors the city's Lilac Festival every May. The grounds also hold the Lamberton Conservatory, Warner Castle, a sunken garden and the Highland Park Bowl amphitheater.
