South Buffalo is the southern third of the City of Buffalo, New York, bounded by the Buffalo River, Lake Erie, the City of Lackawanna and the town of West Seneca, with Seneca Street, Abbott Road and South Park Avenue as its main streets; its population was 42,717 in 2010. Two parks designed by Frederick Law Olmsted anchor the neighborhood: Cazenovia Park, with its ball diamonds and nine-hole golf course, and South Park, home of the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens, joined by the elm-lined McKinley and Red Jacket Parkways. Long known for its Irish-American community, which grew with the Erie Canal, the railroads and the district's steel mills and foundries, South Buffalo holds an Irish feis and an Italian festival each summer.
