Canandaigua is a city in Ontario County, New York, and the county seat of Ontario County; its population was 10,576 at the 2020 census. The city sits at the northern end of Canandaigua Lake, one of the Finger Lakes, about 24 miles southeast of Rochester, and is surrounded by the Town of Canandaigua. What is now the city separated from the Town of Canandaigua to become the Village of Canandaigua in 1815 and was incorporated as a city in 1913. The city developed at the site of the historic Seneca village of Tganödä:gwëh, and the Treaty of Canandaigua between the United States and the Six Nations of the Iroquois was signed there on November 11, 1794.
