Irondequoit is a town in Monroe County, New York, just north and east of the city of Rochester, with a population of 51,043 at the 2020 census. Its name is of Iroquois origin and means "where the land meets the water", fitting for a town bounded by the Genesee River on the west, Irondequoit Bay on the east and Lake Ontario to the north. The town was founded in 1839 when it separated from Brighton, and in the late 19th century its lakeshore was developed as a vacation area for Rochester residents.
