
Pittsford is a town in Monroe County, New York, about seven miles southeast of Rochester, with a population of 30,617 at the 2020 census. Settled in 1789, formed as a town in 1814 and named for Pittsford, Vermont, it is crossed by the Erie Canal and holds eleven town parks along with the county's Powder Mills and Mendon Ponds parks. Paddle, the nickname for platform tennis, is a winter sport developed in 1928 in Scarsdale, New York, played on a fenced court one-quarter the size of a tennis court with heating underneath for cold-weather play.
