Pittsford is a town in Monroe County, New York, about seven miles southeast of Rochester, with a population of 30,617 at the 2020 census. Settled in 1789 and named for Pittsford, Vermont, it is crossed by the Erie Canal, and its village, incorporated in 1827, is the oldest in the county, with former canal warehouses and mills along the water now housing shops, offices and restaurants. The town keeps 11 parks of its own, including Lock 32 and the canal trail, and shares Mendon Ponds and Powder Mills county parks; since its 1996 Greenprint Plan it has preserved two-thirds of its remaining farmland by buying development rights.
