Upper Monroe is a neighborhood on the southeast side of Rochester, New York, along the Monroe Avenue corridor between Route 490 and the Brighton town line, with Culver Road and Field Street as its east and west edges. Its nearly 800 parcels, about half single-family homes and half multi-family buildings, filled in after the Rochester & Eastern Rapid Railway began running interurban cars out Monroe Avenue in the early 1900s. The neighborhood takes in Cobbs Hill Park and Lake Riley, a remnant of the Erie Canal's eastern wide waters, and rises toward Pinnacle Hill, the 749-foot high point of the Pinnacle Range whose broadcast towers carry most of the city's over-the-air television.
