Highland Park is a park in Rochester, Monroe County, New York. Highland Park, also known as Highland Botanical Park, is a 150-acre arboretum in Rochester, New York, with its administrative office at 171 Reservoir Avenue. In 1888 nurserymen George Ellwanger and Patrick Barry gave the city 20 acres of land that became Highland Park, one of the nation's first municipal arboretums; the park was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, who also designed Rochester's Genesee Valley Park, Maplewood Park and Seneca Park. Horticulturist John Dunbar started the park's lilac collection in 1892; the park now holds more than 1,200 lilac shrubs of over 500 varieties and hosts Rochester's annual Lilac Festival each May. The park occupies most of a glacial moraine, sharing the hill with a water reservoir and Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School.
