Victor
Victor is an incorporated town in the northwest corner of Ontario County, New York, southeast of Rochester and part of the Greater Rochester area; the population was 15,969 at the 2020 census, and the town contains a village also called Victor. The town is named after Claudius Victor Boughton, an American hero of the War of 1812; pioneer settlement by European Americans began around 1789, and the Town of Victor was formed in 1812 from part of the Town of Bloomfield. An important Seneca village known as Gannagaro or Ganondagan was located within the town; the Ganondagan State Historic Site was established in 1987, and the Seneca Art & Culture Center opened on its grounds in 2015. The New York State Thruway (Interstate 90) crosses the northern part of the town and meets Interstate 490 east of the hamlet of Fishers; Eastview Mall, a 1,300,000-square-foot shopping center, sits just off Thruway Exit 45 on New York State Route 96 in the northwest part of town.
